Mr. Charles "Charlie" Bailey was a man who made
the teaching of agriculture and working with the FFA a way of life.
He considered the building of young people his greatest accomplishment
and their success his greatest reward. Mr. Bailey felt his role
as an agriculture teacher was a calling, and he carried out his
duties in a manner that indicated this philosophy.
Mr. Bailey taught at Moultrie High School from
1949 to 1951 and Bainbridge High School from 1951 to 1987. He emphasized
the livestock aspect of the FFA program as dictated by the needs
of the local community. As a result, his FFA chapter excelled in
this area.
Mr. Bailey's chapter won the Chapter Achievement
Award and had several state-winning teams and state officers. He
served as District I advisor twice and as president of the Georgia
Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. Mr. Bailey was named
the GVATA Teacher of the Year and has received his Honorary American
FFA Degree.
Mr. Bailey worked on the ground floor in organizing
some of the activities we still enjoy today such as the Georgia
State Fair, Georgia National Fair, and the Albany Fair livestock
shows. He was on the State Livestock Rules Committee from 1951 to
1985 while also serving as the Macon State Fair FFA Livestock Committee
Chairman and on the Albany Fair Livestock Committee. When a question
about livestock arose, Mr. Bailey was often the person many in the
state turned to for answers.
Aside from FFA, Mr. Bailey serves as a deacon
in his church. He is a charter member of the Kiwanis Club in Bainbridge
and a Kiwanis District Governor.
Mr. Bailey believes in the concept of the professional
organization and served in leadership capacities in both the GVATA
as president and the NVATA as a regional and national committee
member. |
