Norman Alton

Mr. Norman Alton faithfully served Agriculture Education as a teacher and, as some say, an ambassador for a total of twenty-six years. He spent these years teaching Agriculture Education at Jesup and Wayne County High School.

Mr. Alton taught at Jesup High School from August of 1966 until July of 1968 where he served as teacher of Agriculture Education and advisor of the FFA Chapter. He later transferred over into the Wayne County school systems, where he taught Vocational Agriculture Education at Wayne County High School from August of 1968 until February of 1983.

Mr. Alton was known by many as a very considerate teacher who cared about all of his students, regardless of their ability to serve in a leadership capacity or to succeed in competitive events. He emphasized helping his students develop a positive belief in themselves and in their ability as prospective members of the community.

As a result of Mr. Alton's former students wanting to expand educational services, the local Young Farmer Chapter was born in 1977 in Wayne County. Mr. Alton assumed the role of advisor for the Young Farmer Chapter. He achieved many accomplishments during his tenure as advisor. He had a State Farm Family and several of his students were named as State Officers.

Mr. Alton conducted a complete program of Agriculture Education and was an excellent teacher and advisor to the FFA and Young Farmer Chapters. He was very influential in helping to establish a firm foundation of participation for the FFA organization. Mr. Alton passed away in February of 1983. His continued influence is evident by the fact that members of his home community nominated and provided great support for his election into the Hall of Fame.
