Mr.Robert T. Allen, Jr., raised in Campbell County,
was one of two representatives from the Georgia FFA selected to
be on an NBC broadcast about the two men who started Vocational
Education in America. He received this honor while studying for
a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree at the University of
Georgia. Mr. Allen also served as Chancellor of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity.
He attended the National Conclave and excelled on the fraternity's
debate team while attending the University.
After he graduated from UGA in 1938, Mr. Allen
went on to spend 33 years in the Agricultural Education field. He
taught at LaFayette High School and Spalding High School before
serving as a teacher of veterans and then area agriculture teacher/adult
program supervisor. He also became a specialist in farm mechanical
maintenance. Mr. Allen retired in 1974.
Mr. Allen was actively involved with the Association
of Teachers of Agriculture. He assisted with the livestock exhibit
program at the Macon Fair and with many FFA rallies, conventions
and area and district meetings. Mr. Allen attended several National
Conventions in Kansas City as a leader and supervisor. Mr. Allen
was also awarded the Honorary Georgia Planter Degree for his support
of the FFA.
Outside of the FFA, Mr. Allen served his church
in several capacities. He was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent
as well as chairman of both the Board of Deacons and the Pulpit
Committee. He also served as the Flint River Association Sunday
school superintendent. Mr. Allen passed away in 1999. |
